A very pleasant surprise that was flying totally under the Yelp radar. Once we decided to walk out for dinner, rather than drive, from our town center motel room ... we figured we wouldn't do much better food-wise than Five Guys, we'd just spend more somewhere else to indulge in some date-night atmosphere. I yelped "hear here" from my iPhone and this place didn't even show up. But wifey spotted it and peered in the window while walking by the touron shops ... and thought she saw a nice looking meal on the table. So we gave it a try. And we're glad we did. My crab cakes were a slightly different interpretation - top notch lump meat in a dome (not disc) shape, held together with a bit of breading (corn meal?), on a chili remoulade base. Very good. Wifey got the halibut, and raved (and had plenty to send my way for samples). We were both impressed with the sides: real (not instant) mashed potatoes and tender-crisp asparagus. The starters - a two part red and yellow pepper soup with crab, and a house salad with greens, 'stachios, sunchoke crisps and a vinaigrette - were also good. The wine list was mostly high distro/grocery store selections, but the full page of selections was nicely balanced, well chosen, and well priced. The best part is you can order a bottle, and not have to glug-a-lug on the spot, you can take what's left home to enjoy on your balcony, watching the ocean. Bottom line: Wifey was impressed. I was very happy, if not quite blown away. We'll give it 3.5 stars, and then round up for beating expectations and for courteous service.

I've been vacationing in Bethany for 30 years and tonight's dinner at The Parkway Restaurant is possibly the best I've ever had here. We started out with the chili lime crab salad. 5/5. Lick the plate scrumptious. Enormous lumps of fresh backfin crabmeat together with avocado, tomato, cilantro, olive oil, honey and red onion were absolutely succulent with the chili and lime. Drinks. 4/5. I had 2 well-made, if slightly bitter mojitos and my husband had a Parkway Punch, which he sucked down in a few minutes flat. I don't like rum so I didn't try his. Entrees. I had the Pretzel Encrusted Ocean Scallops. 5/5. The scallops were PERFECTLY prepared, and I cannot remember the last time I could say that. The pretzel crust on the scallop was delicious, as was the Italian parsley tartar and bed of red and golden quinoa tabouhleh. My husband had the filet, which he ordered medium (smh); despite this it was juicy and tender. 5/5. Luckily for me he doesn't like green beans, so I was the lucky beneficiary of all his. They tasted like they may well have been on a farm this very morning. Dessert was a flourless chocolate cake with macadamia nuts. 4/5. If I were home I might have given it a full 5 stars, because it was really, really good, nice and warm as it was with a scoop of vanilla Haagen Daas ice cream next to it, but Candy Kitchen is across the street and I kept thinking of dark chocolate sea salt caramels instead. Service was 6/5. SUPER attentive waitress, despite a rather busy restaurant. She even let us turn the channel on the TV when we asked to watch the MLB all-star game. Our water never got a quarter of the way empty. Every need was anticipated before we felt it. Outstanding. We will return, we will tell all our friends about our amazing meal, and we will encourage them to tell their friends. If you're looking for a good meal in Bethany, you MUST try Parkway!!

Terrific! Different for this beach neighborhood. Food was great. My husband loved the sea bass. Not a really family place but better for adults. It 's somewhat romantic. Just go and enjoy!

WOW...amazing little gem of a restaurant tucked away in Bethany. Never had a plate that wasn't fantastic. TIP: make a reservation...limited seating

Wow! First time in 40 years I didn't cook Thanksgiving dinner and, of course, chose Parkway for our holiday away from home. The meal was delicious, service was great, drinks were top-notch. Now for the "however" ...... Mrs. Smith could have made better pies for desert. Seriously, after such a satisfying meal one would expect to have it punctuated by a delicious, HOMEMADE pie. Not happening. Also, since when does the server add her own gratuity to the bill for a party of 2?

Very good food and friendly staff. Had dinner here with in-laws, wife and our 2 month old and the server (lady) was super polite, understanding and nice.

The food is amazing but the idea that the bar takes reservations has to go - we love sitting at the bar and last night we learned this place takes reservations for the 20 seats at the bar - never heard of this - its bizarre all because they want to be served by the almighty Michael the bar tender? So there were no seats available and we sat at a table on this empty restaurant - Boy I hope Ruth's Chris doesn't follow with this crazy idea of bar reservations Recommend the crab cakes!

Fantastic dinner at the bar at the Parkway... I don't think that the food is the quality of Off the Hook, but the portions are plentiful, and the service is fantastic. One of the great places off season... Highly recommended!

This restaurant is off my list for good. Have enjoyed it in the past (dinner at the bar by myself; with friends at tables many times over the years). They recently (unknown to me) started requiring reservations to sit at their bar and eat! I went this eve - on my own for dinner having just arrived in town. The place was empty....but I was told the seats were all 'reserved' sorry!!! Really? At 5:30 on a Thursday with an empty restaurant you are turning me down? I'm done. Is this stupid or what?

Much better than expected! We've been coming to Bethany for 4 years now and this was actually our first time here. Service was great, very accommodating. It's nice that they take reservations. Crab/mango/avocado stack app is a must! Caesar salad was also decent. The entrees were solid (scallops and lamb chops) but the accompaniments could have been better (a few lackluster green beans and cous cous). Didn't stay for dessert but the menu items looked tasty! All in all a pretty decent beach dining experience.

As a local, The Parkway is one of my two favorites in the Bethany area. I highly recommend eating at the bar with Michael and thr soft shell crabs when they are in season.

The best place hands down to eat ! I have never had a bad meal here. The rockfish with capers tonight was so awsome. My friends had Czar salads with Scallops and the other with tuna. We had crab dip that we fough over to finish. Gazapacho with Crab with so good we took some home for lunch the next day. The menu is always full of fresh fish prepared so many different ways. I am a big fan of the rack of lamb here as it is just wonderful. My friends are here from out of town and usually want to go try other places when visting at the beach, but they have already informed me we are going back Friday for the crab cakes and to get another order of the crab dip.

The Parkway - Crazy Town Service, Great Food & a Gift Certificate Fail Like Tom Colicchio on America's Best New Restaurant I'm gonna have to divide this review into 3 sections: Ambiance = 1 Star Service = 0 Stars Food = 3 stars Average overall 3 stars The Parkway Restaurant is local institution in the heart of Bethany Beach, DE. I was excited to be given a $100 Gift Certificate (see photo) so I brought my Mom & Dad by off season with a reservation a Saturday night to use it! We were warmly greeted by the hostess and were led past the bar to a 4 top in the brick lined mid-room. (see pictures) The Ambiance is warm, welcoming, eclectic, & cozy. Our waitress came by promptly and gave us the rundown on the daily specials. She mentioned a favorite and soon to sell out special crab dip & a three course meal. When I asked how much the crab dip was (I'm a Marylander and used to Seafood Market Pricing) she rolled her eyes, got a sour look on her face and said defensively "in my 13 years of working here no one has EVER asked how much the special appetizer was" Really? WOW...I grinned and said "well, how exciting to be the first, I'd still like to know please" She rolled her eyes again. (tough crowd) We gave her the bin number and the name of the bottle of Merlot ($34) we wanted to share and she went to check the price of the app. Again, really? The crab dip app was $15. We passed. We ordered the special 3 course meal which included a Caesar or spinach salad, a single crab cake with petite filet and a creme bruleee desert for $34. (yes, i asked again!) Yum! She brought out the wrong bottle of wine & sighed dramatically rolling her eyes again asking "are you sure?" rather than just apologizing and getting the right one. We were sure. I worry about her eyes. The food was delicious! The crab cake was tennis ball sized and full of lump crab with very little filling. The steak, was tender but we had to pass ours around to each other after cutting to get the right doneness. The aioli served with the steak was piquant and flavorful. Seriously, the kitchen is doing a GREAT JOB here! The problem came with the bill. I asked for it, handing over the Gift Certificate & my credit card but when it came back my dad noticed a problem, it was about $30 bucks too much. It came to us as $166 - my dad is better at mental math than I am. When we asked why about it she said "well, you got an advertised special and that's not allowed, your meal was $41 not $34." We were like, whaaat? Why didn't you say anything? I asked where was it advertised? I was on the website earlier that day & didn't see it...she stormed away and said "let me check on this". She came back with another check in a huff, said "I didn't have to, but I took care of it for you" and she ripped up the original check and tossed the pieces on the table. (see picture) WOW. When my mom gently tried to ask a question she interrupted and shushed her! -- I looked shocked at her at this, and she said to my mom, PLEASE in an exaggeratedly slow way. WOW. We were just nonplussed. I asked what her name was - she didn't want to give it ..."Just call me J" but it was on the check. Jane B. I swear, this doesn't happen to us! We're friendly! I used to be a server, I understand how hard it is and I tip well! Sheesh. I mean, we saw the stipulations about using the gift certificate. Can't use it as a tip, not to be used with any other coupon, no cash back, no advertised specials -- but gee whiz, it shouldn't be so difficult to use a well intentioned gift, should it? And it's OK to ask how much a special appetizer or anything is in a restaurant. I think that's what set her off. Never in 13 years? Hard to believe! Well, the food was good, the ambiance was lovely, but Jane must have been having a REALLY BAD DAY. Bless her heart.
